More than 300 people have contacted the Salt Lake County health department over an outbreak of Hepatitis A at a 7-Eleven in West Jordan, UT. The outbreak occurred at the store located on 7800 South 2666 West. People who used the self-serve beverage or fountain drink machine, fresh fruit, food from the hot food case including Taquitos, chicken wings, hot dogs, and pizza, or used the bathrooms may have been exposed.
According to officials, a worker infected with the virus may have handled items in the store, including food, between December 26 and January 3. More than half of those who contract Hepatitis A require hospitalization, and for some, it may have long-term effects.
Anyone potentially exposed to the virus is encouraged to go to a health department, pharmacy, or healthcare provider to receive an injection.
"If they were there December 26th, then tomorrow (January 10, 2018) is the last day for them to receive that preventive vaccination,” said Edwards.
